2) Market and Competition
in the Republic of Indonesia
In Indonesia, electricity consumption is
projected to grow by 8 per cent per year until
2020 due to rapid economic growth and
electricity grid expansion. During 2012-2020,
electricity excess of 43 gigawatts will be
experienced and coal will be used as the
major energy source for power generation.
The government focused its support in
investment in geothermal power that
the country has abundant reserve.
The government reduced financial support,
which drove wholesale price to go up.
Investment in Indonesia, however,
is limited by regulations related to
land ownership as the government is
decentralizing its power and prefer local
ownership to foreign ownership.
3) Market and Competition
in the Social Republic of Vietnam
Electricity demand in Vietnam has been
growing moderately due to high interest rate
policy which has been introduced to reduce
inflation that affected growth in business
sector. Major industry that drove electricity
consumption is mainly property sector in
Ho Chi Minh City. The government has a plan
to increase installed capacity bymore than
44 gigawatts by 2020, mainly using coal as
energy source and reducing the nation’s
dependence on hydro power . The
gove rnment has improved r e l a ted
regulations by supporting and encouraging
the private sector to invest in both
t r an smi s s i on l i ne and d i s t r i bu t i on
s y s t em . T h e i n s t a l l e d c a p a c i t y
is controlled by the government or
subsidiaries of Electricity of Vietnam(EVN).
